John’s turn for the good was initiated by the government taking his wife and son in exchange for his three closest friends. Now John has set out through the Wild West covering much of the U.S. – Mexico border in search of his friends to bring them to justice. But this is only the main story.
Just because John is shooting for the good guys now doesn’t mean that you can’t explore his wild side. This 3rd person shooter allows you to gain positive or negative honor that’s measured by a morality system. For example, if you chase down an outlaw you have the choice to bring him in dead or alive. You gain morality points if you bring the outlaw in alive. However, if you shoot him your morality will drop. You’re also given the chance to rob or even kill innocent people which would affect the morality system negatively. Your morality system affects the fame system which will determine how individuals will treat you in the game. Whether you choose to be a friend or foe of the people is totally up to you.
Another great feature that makes this game so unique is its vast array of side adventures. You can gamble, have stand-offs, hunt animals, herd cattle, and even go on a treasure hunt. The scenery in this game alone is worth taking a horseback ride and exploring the beautiful art that makes up this games backdrops.
Red Dead Redemption also has an online multi-player feature that keeps the action burning long after you’ve completed this 20 plus hour game. In this 16 player online feature, the players start off in a Mexican style shoot-out. After the shootout, the survivors will then get in position and wait for the re-spawns to join in an all out war. You can also join the free roaming mode where you can join teams, hunt down bandits, and even create matches with other teams. There are also death match and capture the flag games you can join as well.
It’s hard to get bored with a game of such a high caliper. The story line is very intriguing and filled with a ton of side adventures that could keep you busy for hours. The ability to free roam allows you to explore your environment and develop your character to be as good or as bad as want him to be. This game is topped off with the multi-player online environment that will keep you busy months after you’ve completed the main journey.
