Xbox Data Transfer Cable!
Xbox360 Data Transfer Cable Set-Up
Xbox Data Transfer Cable Questions
Xbox 360 Arcade Owners: do you need a Data Transfer Cable to setup a new hard drive?
I own a xbox 360 Arcade version and I plan to buy a 120GB Microsoft Hard Drive.
Do I need the “data transfer cable” in order to transfer my game saves and all from my Arcade console’s internal memory?
You only need the transfer cable when you’re transferring from one hard drive to another or from console to console and not taking the drive over to the new 360. For the Arcade with internal memory, all you have to do is hook the hard drive up to it and both the drive and your internal memory will be listed as save devices. You can leave it like this or you can move everything over to your new drive by finding the content on your 360, selecting ‘move’, and then choosing the hard drive as the destination. You will still be able to use your internal memory as extra save space if needed.
Iomega Media Xporter
Sure, connecting an external USB hard drive up to your XBox 360 is hardly rocket science for the average computer reader – but throw in the frustration of getting those hairy photos from your Matric holidays, Guns ‘n Roses albums and that Vernon Koekemoer collection to actually read and play… Now that requires skill.
We’re not sure why you’d want to see snaps of your debauchery in 1080p or similar hi-definition, but now you can with this handy portable hard drive that’s taken the guesswork out exporting media to your next-gen console.
Iomega have thought out of the box, and now accommodate the needs of next-gen console owners who own machines capable of more than just a lazy afternoon of button-mashing. The Iomega Media Xporter is 100% compatible with the PS3 and Xbox 360, with native support for all the accompanying formats (a small avalanche of them) for those of you storing photos, music and videos on your console.
You can also convert additional video formats with Prism Video Converter MX, which requires a free software download. With many PS3s and Xboxes hooked up to a hi-def TV, the applications are obvious.
The Xporter landed on our desktop just as we needed to pull 9GB of pics, tunes and clips off a laptop that needed returning. The snappy data transfer took just a few minutes, and we plugged the Y cable that came with the drive into the back of our Xbox and loaded it up. Quick and easy.
Of course, in comparison to the price of a regular 160GB external hard drive, you’re paying a little extra for this convenience. The drive has a sophisticated look-and-feel, and naturally, fits into your pocket. It’s a pretty savvy purchase for the gadget aficionado – while more hardcore PC enthusiasts might be asking, ‘What’s all the fuss about?’ The answer: plug-and-play. Good thinking Iomega.
